Fixations + After BUTT
Camera Erotica is celebrating 25 years of BUTT magazine!
Founded in Amsterdam in early 2001, BUTT magazine is filled with interviews and photographs of and by shameless queers from the world over. Printed on iconic pink paper, BUTT has provided a place for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transsexuals, intersexuals and other queer friends to speak straightforwardly about their ideas, art, work and sex lives.
The film programme features a short film collection Fixations, alongside After BUTT, a documentary by Ian Giles. We're also welcoming a very special guest to Tallinn: Andrew Pasquier, Chief Editor of BUTT, who will join us for the occasion.
Fixations: one-minute short films / 2024 / 25min / ENG
BUTT magazine, a hub for some of the most important conversations and unhinged dynamics in gay culture, asked our global communities: What gets you going? What turns you on? What are your obsessions? The response did not disappoint. BUTT curated 25 minutes of turn-ons from all around the world – a horny mash-up of cum rags, a pasta-plated p*ssy, dark rooms, wedgies and more.
After BUTT: documentary / 2018 / 33min / ENG
After BUTT explores the social and cultural legacy of the iconic gay magazine BUTT. In the film, transcribed interviews with original contributors to the magazine are re-voiced by a group of young gay men. Through this act of intergenerational storytelling, the film also interrogates BUTT’s
imbalances, raising questions about the magazine’s treatment of race and gender. Language becomes playful and transferable, with words passing between the original interviewees and their new speakers.
