The heartfelt youth and family film "Superkoomik" is based on the highly successful novel of the same name by Swedish writer and psychologist Jenny Jägerfeld. The book has garnered approval from both children and critics and has been translated into over 20 languages.

The film's protagonist is 12-year-old Sasha, who has to cope after her mother takes her own life. Sasha creates a survival list to avoid becoming like her mother: she must not read books, take care of any living beings, cut off all her hair, and become a super comedian. The last point, however, might be the most important, as it is intended to help her father laugh again, something he hasn't done since...

Although "Comedy Queen" deals with heavy themes, it does so sensitively and optimistically, showing that even behind the darkest cloud, the sun eventually shines. The film's director, Sanna Lenken, has said that the main message of the film for her is hope. Talking to children about death and grief can be challenging, but "Superkoomik" handles it brilliantly by intertwining tragedy and comedy, and by emphasizing the importance of not being alone with difficult emotions.

The film premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Crystal Bear award for Best Film in the Generation Kplus section. It also won two awards at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival: Best Live-Action Feature (Professional Jury) and 2nd Prize for Best Live-Action Feature (Youth Jury Award). At the 2023 Swedish Film Awards (Guldbagge), the lead actress Sigrid Johnson was recognized with the Best Actress title. In 2022, the film was also nominated for the Young Audience Award by the European Film Academy (YAA).

Recommended age: 10+

What is the special program “Screening & meeting the filmmakers”?

Meet the creators of films!   Watching films is great, but it’s also cool to see and listen to those who are involved in making the films. This series offers a chance to meet the makers of mostly our local films, but also includes some filmmakers from abroad. This is an exciting opportunity to see a new film and exchange thoughts with the authors, actors or the film crew.
