Celebrating 20 years of Homeless Bob Production

20 years ago Veiko Õunpuu’s first short film Empty (Tühirand) premiered at Sõprus and filming began on Õunpuu’s first feature-length film Autumn Ball (Sügisball), and so the film production company Homeless Bob Production was founded.

Over the years, by consistently supporting bold auteur visions and influencing Estonian film history one film at a time, the studio has built an international audience for our language and culture. In many ways, the studio and today’s Sõprus cinema share similar values. Human flaws are nothing to be ashamed of, they should be approached with distinctive humour, while noticing the small details of everyday life and its little rays of light. And of course keeping good music close to heart. Karlovy Vary, Venice, Sundance, Rotterdam, Gothenburg, Sõprus...

From the beginning of autumn on September 23 until the beginning of winter on December 21, we will bring 10 films created by the creative people behind Homeless Bob Production over the past 20 years back to the screen at Sõprus. We hope this retrospective will give the filmmakers a boost to keep creating with the same brilliance for years to come. 

Each screening will be preceded by an introduction or followed by a discussion. The people talking about those films will be updated on an ongoing basis.
