John is one of the most successful British cinematographers, who has won countless awards and has even earned a Knighthood for his contributions to the entertainment industry. He is one of a group of filmmakers who emerged from the UK music video industry of the late 1980s and 1990s and has shot with Madonna, Prince, Massive Attack, Kylie Minogue, U2, Nirvana, Paul McCartney, Garbage, No Doubt and many others. He is a frequent collaborator with director Ridley Scott, acting as director of photography on most of his films beginning with Gladiator (2000), for which he won a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. He has earned another Academy Award for his cinematography on Joel Schumacher’s “The Phantom of the Opera”. In addition to these directors, during his impressive feature film career, he has worked with John Landis, Mike Newell, James Mangold, Guy Richie, Sam Raimi, Tony Scott and many others. He recently wrapped “Gladiator 2”.
In his masterclass, John will show his recent short film The Shepherd and discuss different creative and practical challenges he faced on this film and others.
The event is organised with the help of Tallinn University research fund, Kultuurkapital and Estonian Film Institute.
All ticket sales will be fully donated to support Ukraine.
