Titled as the director of American shock-indie movies, Harmony Korine's cult debut film "Gummo" has found many admirers and enemies here and there. Convinced fans include Lukas Moodysson, Quentin Tarantino, Ulrich Seidl, Werner Herzog and Gus Van Sant. It is difficult to summarize the film better than the latter:
"A poisonous story; brilliant characters; a victorious structure; an annoyingly tender epilogue; a startling subject; rebellious in nature; honest from the heart;"

How many strange and destructive ways can be found to spend free time? The film, which hyperrealistically depicts the lives of poor white Americans and flies the viewer into the darker side of life, is all the more disturbing because the film's protagonists are all local (street) children and non-actors. Do they live like that? Is that real? Hopefully not.

Not recommended for weak nerves. A warning to others - "Gummo" goes deep under the skin!
