Nitram lives a life of isolation and frustration, as he is never quite able to find a mutual understanding and get along with others. It all changes when he meets wealthy reclusive heiress Helen (starred in “Babadook”, premiered at HÕFF in Estonia in 2014). However when that friendship meets its tragic end, and Nitram's loneliness and anger grow, he begins a slow descent into a nihilism attributable to the best horror films.

“Nitram” is a film about the activities which take place at the explosive point of contact of madness and sincerity, in a place where those who feel comfortable are considered crazy ad those who flee are considered cowards. The leading actor in “Nitram”, Caleb Landry-Jones, won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival for his last role. Australia nominated the film for this year’s Academy Award.

The screening is preceded by the short animation “Easter Eggs (On a Good Friday)”, director and screenwriter Nicolas Keppens, Belgium/Holland/France, length 15 minutes).

Two bored teenagers set about to find something unusual in a small Belgian town. When rumors spread that Mr. Ping’s exotic birds have escaped into the wild, the two friends decide to find them. In the course of the adventure, they discover that escaping the mundane everyday life may be easier than escaping each other. The film premiered at the 2021 Rotterdam Film Festival and was included in the shorts competition programme at 2021 Berlinale.
