The full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine, which is happening now, had its beginnings with the "Slovo" building in Kharkiv – it was the first trial for the Ukrainian nation. The film tells the dramatic story of Ukrainian writers, poets, and directors who created in the 1920s-30s. By Stalin's order, they were gathered under the roof of the cooperative "Slovo" building to be forced to work for the benefit of the system.

This building held enormous significance for Ukrainian culture, but Stalin's machine operated with extraordinary cynicism. They all became participants in an experiment to form a new type of Soviet writer and to have complete control over the creative process. Most of those who refused to cooperate with the Soviet authorities were destroyed.

The film is about how the communist paradise turns into a communist hell. The story is based on real events. The film has won numerous awards and prizes at six international film festivals.

We will be happy to see you at the screening and support the development of the Ukrainian Film Club in Estonia!
